Losing Pride

The streets of San Fransisco are losing pride. They have officially turned down the offer to have the U.S. Marines film a commercial on their city's streets. The silent drill platoon that was supposed to be in the film continued their campaign throughout the rest of the states including New York City. Missing in North Carolina

In Waynesville, North Carolina this morning the news is reporting the missing of eight boy scouts and their three chaperons. The troop decided to go on a weekend trip. Sources tell foxnews.com that they left a schedule behind in Raleigh. Lisa Logan, a mother of one of the scouts, told foxnews.com that she believes the scout troops might have gotten off schedule and decided to stay an extra night in the mountains. Haywood County fire department and search and rescue members are currently searching the area for any sign of the group. Fine to Fined

Believe it or not but Britney Spears might be having to spend time behind bars after all. In August of this year Britney was captured by a paparazzi cameraman colliding with another vehicle in a Studio City parking lot. Britney calmly assessed the damage to her vehicle but not to the other. It was later discovered that Spears had been driving without a license. If charged she could face up to six months in prison and a $1000 fine. This only adds to Britney's woes as she was ordered later this week to be subjected to random drug testing in her custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Federline. McCanns case Falling Apart

The lead investigator for the Portugal police announced that the case is falling apart. There is no longer any bases to go after 4-year-old Madeleine McCanns parents. No new evidence has come forth in the case. According to foxnews.com, "The prosecutor's statement follows a review of the evidence by Judge Pedro Daniel dos Anjos Frias, who was asked by Portuguese detectives for permission to re-interview the couple after they refused to answer 40 key questions." Pop Star to Pop Flop

After her unbelievably terrible coming out at the MTV Video Music Awards last week, Britney Spears is once again in the headlines. Yesterday the courts dealt Britney a solid blow by asking that she attend family counseling and be administered drug tests. According to foxnews.com, "The Court finds that there is a habitual frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol by [Spears].” To top things off Britney's manager fired her. If the "Crime" Fits

It appears that after talking to reporters and the police O.J. is going to the slammer. Friday O.J. Simpson was questioned by police officials investigating a break-in into a Las Vegas hotel room. While being questioned O.J. denied breaking into the room but said he was on a "sting operation" to retrieve some sports memorabilia which had been taken from him. Today Mr. Simpson was placed under arrest and charged with armed robbery which was linked to the hotel break-in. According to "lead investigator Lt. O.J. Busted

Today O.J. Simpson was named as a suspect in a break-in case at the Palace Station casino. When questioned by police O.J. said that he was conducting a "sting operation" to try and recover some of his sports memorabilia which was taken from him. A Day That Changed America and a Generation

I can remember September 11, 2001 very well as I am fairly certain that most of you can. It was a day which not only changed America but it changed an entire generation. Unlike our parents who lived through the Vietnam War we were staring straight into the past. This was something that only our grandparents had experienced during Pearl Harbor. The enemy had come to us. Today we remember those who lost their lives, both men and women. Mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, and sisters. People whose families are still trying to heal even six years later. We remember the heroes who risked their own lives to save countless others, that brought a city together and united Americans all over the country. So let me say thank you to all those brave men and women and their families. Let me tell you that for generations to come that they will all be remembered and honored on this day. Memorial Cross Country Tour

As most Americans have noted by today, tomorrow will mark the sixth year anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. And as most Americans are aware there will be a memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives that day in New York City. In preparation the metal which will become apart of this memorial tribute is, at this moment, touring the country. It's first stop is South Carolina. According to reports the memorial has managed to raise $700 million in funding. $300 million was private donations and the other $400 million promised by the federal government. An "8-acre memorial, which will set two waterfall-filled pools just above the twin towers' footprints, surrounded by a glade of oak and sweetgum trees. Visitors will descend underground to a Sept. 11 museum and be able to view the waterfalls from below." This is according to foxnews.com. After losing to Appalachian State University last week, Michigan lost again this time to Oregon. The score was 39-7 with Dennis Dixon managed to run 368 yards and four touch downs which have become his career record. Greetings from Paris

After shying away from the spotlight a few months ago, Paris Hilton is once again making a comeback, but not in the way you would think. The 26-year-old heiress is suing HALLMARK for reportedly using her image and her infamous slogan "That's hot" without her consent. The card has been selling for $2.49 and HALLMARK reportedly has used her image on three other cards. Hilton is seeking $500,000 in damages. Missing Madeleine

Madeleine McCann who disappeared while with her family on vacation in Portugal sparked a global Amber Alert trying to locate her. Now her mother Kate has been named as a suspect in her daughters disappearance. A family friend told the AP that not only would Kate McCann be named as a suspect but her husband Gerry will be also. The British couple have maintained their innocence in their daughters case throughout the investigation. Continuing to look for Madeleine her parents traveled Europe and even visited Pope Benedict XVI. However, Madeleine has not yet been found and the Portugal police's decision to name her parents as suspects have left them both shocked and surprised. Pavarotti Dies

World renowned and well known Italian tenor opera singer Pavarotti dies at the age of 71. The famous tenor who achieved fame throughout all musical spectrum's was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year. A statement that reached news affiliates such as MSN.com said, "The Maestro fought a long, tough battle against the pancreatic cancer which eventually took his life. In fitting with the approach that characterised his life and work, he remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness." Senator Larry Craig is having second thoughts. Late last week the Senator who is accused of being guilty after an airport men's restroom sex sting, told reporters and the public that he was going to resign by the end of this month. However, Craig is looking to the Senate Ethics Committee to clear his name and it appears the congressman from Boise, Idaho will fight for his seat in Congress. Craig has also hired a lawyer. Craig to Resign

Senator Larry Craig announced that he will be resigning on September 30th. His resignation comes amidst the June allegations of trying to solicit a police officer in a Minneapolis airport men's restroom. Remembering a Princess

Ten years ago in a Paris tunnel a generation saw the end of a remarkable woman. Princess Diana was more than just a philanthropist she was also a mother, sister, daughter, and devoted friend. Today marks the tenth anniversary of her death. The youngest of her sons Prince Harry spoke about his mother saying "She was our guardian, friend and protector. Beethoven.....Murdered?

Was Beethoven murdered by his own doctor? New reports out today suggest that he was given an overdose and died due to lead poisoning. However, there is no question about it that Beethoven was a very sick man before his death. According to Christian Reiter, a Venetian forensic scientist, Beethoven's lead level spiked with each visit from his doctor. According to the report at foxnews.com "He says his analysis, published last week in the Beethoven Journal, shows that in the final months of the composer's life, lead concentrations in his body spiked every time he was treated by his doctor, Andreas Wawruch, for fluid inside the abdomen. Utah Mine Rescue to Use Camera

The rescuers admit that it might be a long shot but it is worth a try to find the trapped miners in Huntington, Utah. The six miners have been missing for 21 days and so far the rescue efforts have seen the loss and injury of other rescue workers. It is planned that a robot manning a camera will go down into the mine at 1500 feet and will take images of the surrounding area. This effort is expected to aid in the finding and rescue of the men below. On Friday Attorney General Alberto Gonzales resigned by phone. Reportedly President Bush understood the reasons for the Attorney General to step down but accepted his resignation hesitantly. Gonzoles' temporary replacement might be Paul Clement who is the Solicitor General. According to reports by Fox News, "Bush has steadfastly held that Gonzales did nothing wrong in the firings or legal decision-making and the probes were merely an attack on the administration for its decisions." Lucky in Love

The White House announced Thursday that Jenna Bush, the Presidents daughter, is now engaged to her long time boyfriend. When reporters asked if they would be getting married in the Rose Garden the spokeswoman for Laura Bush said that they had not yet made any plans for the ceremony. The last time a marriage ceremony took place at the White House was when Nixon's daughter tied the knot. The mystery man in Jenna's life is Henry Hager, 29. The two have been dating for several years and Hager could be seen next to Jenna's side at family functions "such as the November 2005 dinner in honor of Britain's Prince Charles," according to MSN.com. 3 Utah Mine Rescuers Killed in Collapse, 6 Injured

It has been 11 days total since the August 6th Utah Mine collapsed. Officials brief the families every day as to their progress trying to reach the trapped miners. However, the rescue efforts were compromised and as a result three of the rescuers were killed by another fatal collapse, and six others were reported injured. According to foxnews.com "The seismic activity underground has just been relentless. The mountain is still alive, the mountain is still moving and we cannot endanger the rescue workers as we drive toward these trapped miners," said Bob Murray, chief of Murray Energy Corp., the co-owner and operator of the Crandall Canyon mine." Reportedly rescue workers heard strange noises coming from the mine giving everyone a glimmer of hope that they will find these men alive. Two Sides to Everything

You know that old saying "There's two sides to everything"? Well apparently there were two sides to our 16th President, and no I'm not talking about personality. I'm talking about facial features. Science has confirmed what so many artists and sculptures of Abraham Lincoln already knew, that he had a good side and a bad side. Everyone does when taking a photograph, but President Lincoln's features are a little more defined. The claim states that his left side was much smaller than his right side. According to the report "Lincoln's contemporaries noted his left eye at times drifted upward independently of his right eye, a condition now termed strabismus said, Dr. Ronald Fishman who published this study in the August issue of the Archives of Ophthalmology." Merv Griffin died this weekend from Prostate Cancer. Mr. Griffin was one of televisions most beloved icons in the 1960s through 1980s. He launched television game shows like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and even his own talk show "THE MERV GRIFFIN SHOW." Mary Byrne Smith, an Alabama ministers wife, who has been missing for almost over four months was found yesterday. According to police Mary was working at a New York fast-food restaurant, unharmed, under an alias. Police Chief Mike Halphen reported to the press that Mary did not wish to disclose the reasons for her disappearance. In order to get to New York Mrs. Smith pawned her wedding ring and asked how far the money would take her. Mary will not face any criminal charges because the police believe that she left of her own free well in an attempt to start a new life. This weekend millions of Simpson fans got exactly what they had been waiting for. The release of the SIMPSON'S movie raked in $71.4 million at the box office. Glenn McDuffie was not believed to be telling the truth when he claimed to be the kissing sailor in a classic sixty-two year old photograph. However a renowned Texas sketch police artist backs up Mr. McDuffie's claim. Lois Gibson said that his eyebrows, hair texture, and facial features match the photograph taken in Times Square. The photo is infamous for being one of the best taken at the relief of the end of the second World War. Mr. McDuffie said that it was time people knew the truth. The Lo-Down on Lohan

As a member of the general public I would have to say that there is something wrong with young Hollywood. Where is the roll models that our parents and grandparents grew up with? Better yet where is young Hollywood's parents? The latest news crept out about Lindsey Lohan yesterday morning as she decided to pursue her assistance mother in a chase that led her straight to the police again and this time she was not only arrested for DUI but for having cocaine in one of her pockets. Lindsey claimed yesterday that the drugs were not hers. Hardly two weeks after being released from Promises, a clinic that deals addictions, Lindsey's snap shot is taken again and lawyers are saying that she could get up to six months in prison if she does not immediately go back into rehab. It is my personal opinion that jail time is exactly what the doctor ordered. This young woman needs to realize that not everyone has her talent and not everyone can have the impact on people's lives the way she can if she wanted to. On this day in 1965 singer-song writer Bob Dylan made his first appearance at the Newport Folk Festival. Growing up this young up-and-coming star had taught himself how to play the guitar and soon got together his own band. His songs that held cryptic meaning to some and inspired a generation got him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Today Dylan has had a successful career numbering 40 years. Tammy Fay Dies at Age 65

Late last night millions of people learned of Tammy Faye's passing. Earlier in the week, on Thursday night, Tammy sat down to talk with CNN's Larry King Live about her life, her children, answer letters from her fans, and talk about her cancer. It was the last interview of her career. Tammy Faye died at her North Carolina Home at the age of 65. Despite her cancer she never appeared to be down in spirits and joked with Larry King that if she could be remembered for one thing it would have to be her eyelashes. There are millions of people who will never forget her loving sense of humor and her strength. The family will hold a private ceremony on Saturday. Youth in a Pill?

Two scientists believe that they can possibly produce the Fountain of Youth in a tiny little pill. But shockingly it just isn't any pill. The pill is made up of chemicals and ingredients that can only be found in Red Wine. The two pioneers are also looking to shape the future of growing old by finding ways to cure other diseases such as Alzheimer's, diabetes, and heart disease. An Indiana Pizza Hut waitress received a $10,000 tip from a mother with her three sons. The waitress, whose name is Jessica Osborne, had dreams of attending college to further her education and when the gift was presented to her she reportedly broke down in tears. The mother and sons wish their identities to remain unknown but I am certain that Jessica will never forget them or that day when her dreams of attending college were made possible. Crown Me!

It looks like after much debate over the spicy photographs that have been floating around of the now infamous Miss New Jersey that she will be keeping her crown after all. The photo's were pulled from her FACEBOOK page and circulated around by an anonymous source. On yesterday's TODAY Show she explained that it was about going out and having a good time with friends. Summer Coverage

The great thing about summer is that there is no limit to the amount of coverage the media can give celebrities, rather it is pop-culture celebs or political. I've been setting back relaxing for several weeks now and have enjoyed my time off. However, it has not be uneventful. I have witnessed the mayhem behind Paris Hilton's jail sentence, and recently the death of Lady Bird Johnson. It surprised me to learn that Paris Hilton, is in her mid-twenties, because she acts like she's a teenager. Although I do think jail might have helped her some, it will ultimately be her actions that will speak louder than words and we'll see how far that goes. The recent passing of Lady Bird Johnson has not gone unnoticed by many Americans this week. Here at HistoryintheMaking our thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family. Her husband was another President whose term was soiled by a war but despite the troubles of that era we still have to respect the man and the office he held. Summer Time

Summer has returned and as such events do often occur so has my time here blogging away to whoever so happens to pass across my little writing space. On this day in 1977 George Lucas released his Jedi thriller Star Wars to the public. The movie took away seven Oscars, $461 million dollars, and billions of fans world wide. As a result of the shows success Lucas had to create the rest of the series gaining a new generation of Star Wars lovers. On Memorial Day weekend in 1977 the film grossed a grand total of $800 million in global sales. Sole Custody Denied

According to foxnews.com, "The husband of missing Illinois mom Lisa Stebic was denied sole custody of the couple's two children Tuesday." Craig Stebic's lawyer argued that if Lisa, who has seemingly disappeared, ever came back that she might vanish again and next time with the children. Family members of Mr. Stebic insist that the reality is that Lisa would never abandon her children by running away. Lisa Stebic was last seen on April 30th. I Spy

Alexander Litvinenko as you might recall was poisoned late last year and died earlier this year of radiation. The former KGB operative traveled to London where the radioactive material spread leaving police to question who, or why, someone would want Litvinenko dead. Now foxnews.com is reporting that another spy is the one behind Litvinenko's death. The name of that spy has been released and according to foxnews.com, "Andrei Lugovoi had met with Litvinenko at a London hotel hours before the former agent turned Kremlin critic fell ill with polonium-210 poisoning." Shooter kills Three Wounds Two

There is no motive for the shooting that took place over the weekend in Moscow, Idaho. According to police reports not only were three people killed and two injured the shooter also took his own life. The shooting took place at the town's First Presbyterian Church. Today mourners laid flowers and cards outside the church praying for the friends and families left behind. On this day in history Brown vs. Board of Education overturned Plessy vs. Ferguson. The 1954 ruling outlawed the thought of separate as being equal in schools and public businesses. Liberty University Founder Jerry Falwell Dies at 73

This morning Lynchburg, Virginia is preparing for its graduating class of 2007 to receive their degrees. However, they are also in mourning for the leader of their University and its founder Rev. Jerry Falwell. Falwell is famed for establishing the moral majority in America. The Liberty University campus is the largest Evangelical school with 20,000 students. Falwell was found by a colleague in his office at Liberty yesterday afternoon unconscious and unresponsive. Falwell's son told reporters that his father mentioned that, "He was feeling better than he'd felt in awhile." The Reverend was known to have heart trouble and at this time Dr. Carl Moore, Falwell's physician confirms that may be the reason for Falwell's death. We're Sinking

An Alaska cruise ship, the Empress of the North, runs ashore on Juneau carrying approximately 281 passengers. According to foxnews.com, "Over the following hours, passengers were transferred from the Empress of the North to fishing vessels and other cruise ships that were in the area." The area in which the ship is sinking is heavily occupied by fishermen and other marine boaters. They have been kind enough to aid in the rescue of the crew and passengers aboard. According to news reports cyclist Floyd Landis said that the Anti-Drug Agency offered him a deal to out 7 time champ of the Tour de France Lance Armstrong on drug use. Foxnews.com reported the story saying, "At a news conference Thursday to preview his upcoming arbitration hearing, Landis said he made the Armstrong allegations public not because he planned to use it as evidence when testimony begins Monday, but to show the lengths USADA will go to in prosecuting athletes." All Aboard!

On this day in 1869 the country got it's first taste of transportation comfort and modernization. All of this was wrapped up in the lives of two eastern statesmen who sought better means of travel for all in the 1830's. Just one year into the Civil War Congress granted the act of creating a transcontinental railroad through the United States. The people who built the train and its tracks suffered from heat, Indian attacks, and other difficulties as the road was being put together. By 1869 nearly 2,000 miles of track had been laid. Boxing Champ Dies: Age 29

Diego Corrales, a former world champion boxer, died in a motorcycle accident. Corrales was driving a 2007 Suzuki and was in Las Vegas when the accident occurred. According to police the motorcycle and the driver of the other vehicle, who has not yet been identified, was unable to prevent the striking twenty nine year old Corrales. Corrales leaves behind a wife who is seven months pregnant. According to yahoo sports, "Diego Corrales lived an X-Games lifestyle," his promoter Gary Shaw said. "He was a true warrior." Twister Takes it All

Storms that ripped through parts of the mid-west, through the infamous Tornado ally, later last week ravaged the small town of Greensburg Kansas. Residents say there is nothing left. Over ninety-five percent of the town has been destroyed. The local hospital, businesses, and homes are among the wreckage. According to news reports, "The tornado, part of a weekend of violent storms across the Plains, claimed at least eight lives in the town of 1,500 residents; two died elsewhere in the state." Hiest

The FBI is seeking a man who managed to get away with $1.8 million in an armored truck. The hiest took place in southern Florida. According to foxnews.com, "The armed robbers stoled teh cash from an AT Systems truck as it delivered money to E-Z Checks Cash at a strip mall in Hialeah Gardens on Wednesday, police siad. Shots were fired, but no injuries or arrests were reported. " Police suspect an inside job due to the fact that the secuirty outside when the robbery happened fired his weapon at the ground. NASA released photos of Jupiter's moon erupting. According to foxnews.com, "The pictures, taken by the New Horizon spacecraft, show the large, volcanically active moon called "lo" while an eruption is taking place, London's Daily Mail stated." Nessy

This day in history in 1933 the Loch Ness Monster was spotted. Accounts of the creature go back almost 2,000 years in Scotland. This sighting made local news in the paper Inverness Courier and later carried a heavy reward for anyone who could provide sufficient evidence that Nessy existed. To this day the story of Nessy captivates and draws many people to Lock Ness and will probably always be one of those great stories that is passed down from generation to generation.
